Ways to Stay Safe in the Winter

By Abigail

Have you ever thought about the coming Winter? Have you ever thought about ways to stay safe during those cold times? Well, let me tell you, Winter IS coming and it is ALMOST HERE. You need a plan on ways to stay safe during Winter. This is very necessary if you want to be cautious in the cold weather. Three main things you need to be careful about during winter are driving safety, attire, and nutrition and hygiene.

One thing you need to be careful about during winter is your driving safety. First of all, you need to drive slowly so that your car doesn’t slide on the ice. You should have a safety kit in your car in case your car breaks down. This kit should include:

  • A Thermal Blanket

  • A Water bottle

  • Multiple Layers of Clothing

  • Flashlight

  • Cell phone

Driving slowly and keeping a safety kit in your car are very important during the Winter time because the ice gets very bad and cars slide constantly, and the kit is important if your car breaks down and you don't have a cell phone to call anyone or water and warmth.

Another thing you should be careful about during Winter is what you wear. Now, this one is very important to be cautious about because it gets FREEZING in the West Bonner County School District during the Winter time and you need to wear warm clothing. You should wear multiple layers depending on the temperature. If you intend to play, cross country ski, or do anything in the snow, be sure to wear a long sleeve shirt, pants, snow pants, a jacket, thick socks, gloves, a hat, and waterproof boots. You might even like to wear hand warmers if you want to stay extra warm.

One last thing you need to be careful about during the Winter is your nutrition and hygiene. During the Winter, you need to stay well hydrated. It is very important for you to take Vitamin D supplements, because you get it naturally from the sun, but since there is hardly any sunshine in the Winter, you can get it from Vitamin D supplements. With your hygiene, you need to use lotion and chapstick very often. The cold makes your skin dry, so you need lotion to keep it protected, along with chapstick for your lips because the cold makes your lips dry, and they eventually crack. Without lotion and chapstick, your Winter will be very painful.

In conclusion, it is very important for you to stay safe during the Winter. There are three main things you need to be careful about. One is that you need to be careful about your driving, such as keeping a safety kit in your car in case it breaks down and driving slowly so your car doesn't slide on the ice. Another thing you need to be careful about during winter is what you wear, such as the things you should wear if you want to play in the snow, or the amount of layers of clothes you should wear. The last main thing you should be careful about in the Winter is your nutrition and hygiene, like staying well hydrated and using chapstick and lotion! If you remember these things, you will have a happy and safe Winter!

It is important for students to be at school each day so that they build their knowledge and skills and become part of the school community. Thank you for assisting your student in getting to school each day ready to learn!
